Drano
GE's press release: Headline: GE Delivers First-Quarter Earnings of $.32 Per Share, With Double-Digit Growth at Eight of 13 Businesses And Solid Cash Flow From Operating Activities Smoking Gun: Earnings before required accounting changes were $3.214 billion, or $.32 per share, compared with $3.518 billion, or $.35 per share, in first quarter 2002. Eight GE businesses -- Aircraft Engines, Commercial Finance, Consumer Finance, Industrial Systems, Medical Systems, NBC, Specialty Materials and Transportation Systems -- contributed double-digit earnings growth in the quarter. Revenues of $30.3 billion were 1% lower than in first quarter 2002, reflecting lower U.S. gas turbine sales at Power Systems and the absence in 2003 of NBC Winter Olympics broadcast revenues. Industrial sales were down 6% to $15.8 billion; excluding Power Systems in both periods and the Winter Olympics in 2002, industrial sales rose 7%. Sales of product services grew 20% to $5.1 billion. Financial services revenues of $14.7 billion were up 6%, and net revenues (revenues from services less interest and other financial charges) at Commercial Finance, Consumer Finance and Equipment Management grew 10%. simple guy
Im short SPY as of last nights close... expected possible higher retraces... but 5th terminal due... if not today, then monday and tuesday... You dont get 4 waves down, and then go up with no 5th wave... not how it works, and its not how its going to work. Any upside this am should be shorted, as it will rollover after .786 retrace is hit, at best.... 5th wave down from there, and it may be an extension wave too... Then we go up.... big time, as I've been saying all along, 930 SP Cheers SG

Charliss
I didn't like yesterday's late afternoon persistent probe of 870 and the final result. While I suppose that could have been construed as a reason to stay short, it just didn't feel right, especially within the context of numbers due and forensic analysis, and so I covered. Still holding gold shares long.
Drano
Smoking Gun #2: US retail sales surge a surprising 2.1% in March?By Rex Nutting Retail sales rose a seasonally adjusted 2.1% in March, the largest gain since October 2001's 6.2 percent post-attack surge, the Commerce Department estimated Friday. Retail sales had plunged 1.3% in February. Half of March's gains were due to a 5.3% rise in auto sales. Excluding autos, retail sales rose 1.1% after a 0.6% decline in February. Sales were also boosted by a record 7.9% rise in sales at hardware and garden stores. The figures were a surprise to Wall Street, whose economists had forecast a 0.8 percent rise in total sales and a 0.5 percent increase in ex-auto sales. Unlike industry data that showed a 0.2% drop in year-over-year same-store sales in March, the government data are adjusted to account for this year's late Easter holiday. All that duct tape and plastic wrap at hardware stores must have added up.
