Libya is just a sideshow with 3.5% of the worlds proven oil reserves. Admittedly this is about gas. The real game is north of the Gulf in what is called Pipelineistan. Right there in the middle of China, Russia, India with Europe wanting to get its share. One thing about pipeline is that they are very difficult to defend but rarely need to be defended. No matter who wants to overthrow what king, dictator or government wants those pipes bringing in the money when they take over. Even the freaking Taliban year zero sort of crazies were not below at least talking with the Bushies in the early days about pipelines going through Afghanistan where a few long dreamed of mega pipeline projects had their eyes cast.
