January
6, 2001- Charts and quotes on this page are current, but delayed. That period is what set Dr. Stool on his course of the study of stock proctology. Young Stepan N. Stool spent many hours, over many days, over many years, suffering, while the so-called experts continued to assure one and all that everything would be fine. Well, it wasn't fine. It was bullshit. Those "experts" spoke out of bias and self interest, not out of any concern for reality, that's for sure. So young Stepan determined that he would never again be fooled by these charlatans. He became the Stock Proctologist, warning others against following the same foolhardy path on the road to ruin. Remember, dear readers, those who say buy and hold only do so because they want company. The conventional wisdom is always the safe way to avoid responsibility for being wrong. There is a time to buy, and a time not to buy, a time to sell, and a time to hold. Now is not the time to buy, nor is it the time to hold. CSCO, the quintessential "buy and hold" stock, is in the same boat as Xerox and Polaroid, and IBM and all the other nifty 50, thirty years ago. It's in a secular bear market. It has nowhere to go but down. Using conventional and centered moving average measuring techniques, the short term target is 28. The stock has a long term price objective of 18, that's right 18. This stock, and the buy and hold "good companies" mentality, is going to be responsible for sending a lot of investors to the poorhouse over the next year or two.
